Let me start by letting you know that this morning at breakfast, Celtic was busy complaining to the waiter. It is a big ship but somehow we keep running into this man.
Our day in Barcelona was outstanding. It was another Tuk Tuk tour but unlike Madrid, I could fully understand Louis. It drizzled and was cool this morning but by noon, it was a glorious day…sunny, dry and cool.
The most incredible site was the Barcelona cathedral, Sagrada Família. It is really a work of art. Construction started in the 13th century and they are still working on it. It will be 10 more years before it is complete. When it is complete, you will to able to take an elevator to the cross on the top. Isn’t that cool…a lookout tower on the top of a gothic cathedral.
Several architects over the centuries worked on this design but the most important is Antoni Gaudi. We saw several of his structures on our tour. It is had to describe how beautiful the architecture in this city is.
Other than amazing architecture in the city, we also saw their Olympic stadium from 1992. I remember watching opening ceremony. A guy shot a flaming arrow into the Olympic cauldron to ignite it. It was very dramatic. Well, turns out, he missed and they lit it as the arrow passed by…just an optical illusion. Anyway, it was still a cool way to kind of light the cauldron.
We also went up this mountain/hill to an area (also Olympic) where there was an amazing view of the city. It concerned Louis because there was a fire right by our meeting spot. They had it out by the time the tour ended.
Louis took us to a beautiful monastery on the tour but he forgot it was closed on Monday. We did get to see two dog walkers with a bunch of precious dogs. That was probably better than the monastery anyway.
To replace the time we were supposed to spend in the monastery, we went to their soccer/football stadium instead. It was massively crowded and fun. Barcelona is building the largest capacity stadium in Europe…105,000 seating capacity. These folks are serious about their football.
Speaking of sports, Louis said in Barcelona everyone loves the NBA. He was very knowledgeable about the SA Spurs. He said nobody understands American football and you can’t watch baseball so NBA it is. He talked about the history of the Spurs and Popovich. I shared the story of my mother loving the Rockets and hating the Spurs so she called him Popobitch. He loved that.
We are finally cruising. The sunset was spectacular!!! I have posted pictures but they are as pretty as the real thing.
Good night. Tomorrow France!
Oh and…
Best food: Steak Diane and breakfast (all of it)
Worst food: (Mushy) Spinach
This was the closed monastery.
