We arrived in Whittier, the end of our wonderful cruise. It is now time for the land portion of our Alaska tour.
The train we boarded was very nice. It had plenty of viewing windows so we were pretty excited.
When this train started moving it was VERY slow but we thought surely it was gonna speed up. WRONG. It took us 10 hours to go 300+ miles. The scenery was beautiful of course but it would have still been beautiful if we passed by at a faster speed.
We did see views of Denali that only 30% of visitors witness. It was such a clear sunny day that you could see the entire mountain. Most of the time, the weather is screwed up here so visibility is bad. Our tour guide said last week he rode with a very grouchy group because it was raining and the sky was dark the entire way. So at least we were lucky in that way.
When we arrived at the lodge, we went to our cute cabin room and discovered that we were double booked in our room. Our tour guide sent us to dinner while he sorted things out.
Turned out, we got moved to another room which included free lunch vouchers for our trouble.
So, not a great start to our adventure. Sometimes when things get messed up it is stressful, sometimes it is just funny. This was definitely funny. We laughed till bedtime.
Tomorrow we have requested yet another room because this one smells funky. Jane said it smells like Urban air...feet and plastic. More laughter about that too!
So, maybe tomorrow will be better. It is a really beautiful place and the weather is perfect so nothing else matters.
